Griffith Observatory : Day Five (Part 1)
After a magical Day Four at Disneyland we decided to stay in the area and visit the Griffith Observatory, we decided that it would be a great idea to walk up the mountain trail through Griffith Park. What sounded like a great idea in our heads quickly turned into OMG we are climbing a mountain! and anybody that knows me knows that I am deathly afraid of heights so it was quite the interesting walk up for me (don't look down right?). About half way up the mountainous trail we decided to stop for a little bit and catch our breath and get in the shade, the view from the middle of the trail was unbelievable! I wish I had snapped a pic so that I could share with you but remember I'm afraid of heights and wasn't about to risk it all lol.
Once we got back on the trail it was non stop dash to the top, the higher we got the more I just wanted to cry but I toughed it out and basically sprinted to the top, while Danielle took in the views and got burnt in the process (maybe some sunscreen would have been good?). Finally we reached the top and there was a huge crowd in front of the observatory and we had no idea why, there were a couple black presidential Chevy Suburbans so we knew it had to be somebody important. Once the doors of the cars opened and the figure emerged it was none other than Presidential hopeful Bernie Sanders, which I thought was pretty cool.
Inside the Observatory was pretty cool...admission was free which seemed to be a common theme in LA but inside we learned everything about our Solar System and Universe as well as how much we'd weigh on specific planets, there was also a planetarium show but we didn't have time to do that unfortunately. The view of LA from the observatory was probably my favourite part of the whole day although I love me some space this view was a bit more impressive on this day.
We could also see the Hollywood sign across the way from the observatory because it was such a clear day, but we decided not to go over to the Hollywood Sign lookout as the trail up to the observatory had us pooped out.
Stay Tuned for Part 2 of this post as it covers the rest of the day including our time spent on Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills!
